Required Materials

Note: this is a general guideline; each accessory may have specific ways of cleaning the material. Follow the instructions there. As a rule, leather should be cleaned once per season; it may be cleaned more often if very dirty.

Step 1

Dust the leather accessory. If needed, use a vacuum to remove the dirt. You may use any of the cleaners listed in the “required materials”. Majority of leather accessories will require saddle soap.

Step 2

Rinse the leather with a sponge. Alternatively you can use water and cloth. Allow the leather to dry.

How to Clean a Motorcycle Leather Riding Suit

Required Materials

3 soft cloths
Leather conditioner
Spray leather cleaner

Step 1

Put the leather suit in front of you. Spray clean all the pieces.

Step 2

Get a soft cloth and rub the cleaner in a circular manner.

Step 2

Let each leather piece dry for several hours; overnight is preferred. This will ensure no moisture gets on the leather. Moisture must not be set against the air conditioner.

Step 3

To continue cleaning motorbike leather, apply leather conditioner onto soft cloth. Apply the conditioner all around the suit. Make sure the entire suit is layered by the conditioner. Add more conditioner to the cloth if necessary.

Step 4

Let the conditioner sit for about 60 minutes. This should give the conditioner enough time to treat the material. After an hour, polish off any excess conditioner with a clean cloth.

How to Clean Leather Saddlebags

Step 1

Take the saddlebags off the bike. Remove any items inside it.

Step 2

Wipe off the dirt with a damp cloth. Check the deep parts of the saddlebag; dirt often gets stuck there.

Step 3

Get a damp rag and apply leather cleaner on it. Wipe this on the saddlebags. Allow the cleaner to sit for the duration specified in the instructions.

Step 4

Get a clean, damp cloth and use it to remove the cleaner residue.

Step 5

Apply spray leather conditioner to the saddlebags. Use a clean cloth to wipe away the conditioner. Spray and dry one saddlebag area at a time. Warning: do not use cleaners with detergents on leather saddlebags.

Motorbike leather accessories are varied, but most of the time, they can be cleaned using the techniques specified above. By buying high quality leather, the accessories will last even longer.
